Learning French
one step at a time
At Inicio, our mission is to help first or second-language English speakers build their confidence by helping them adapt and integrate into Quebec society on a personal and professional level. With that in mind, we encourage our participants to speak as much French as possible. We instill in them the confidence to speak French and cultivate an appreciation for the language, encouraging its use in your daily life even after the program ends.
Even though the Employability program is taught in English, our participants are exposed to the French language in many different ways and the programming is designed to help participants develop their French conversation skills at all levels. Our beginner workshops are offered three times per week.
The topics covered include:
- Greetings and introductions
- Fundamental regular and irregular verbs in the present tense
- Properly structuring questions in French
- Adjectives
- Indefinite, definite, and partitive articles
- The near future and recent past
- Reflexive verbs
- Possessive and demonstrative adjectives
On Fridays:
On Fridays, we also offer a three-hour conversation club with two sections: beginner and intermediate/advanced. In both sections, participants engage in role-playing activities, play games in French, read and watch videos, and learn relevant vocabulary that is connected to the weekly professional themes outlined in the Employability program.
